Portal de Archivos de Nueva España
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

In this post, you can learn more about the Portal de Archivos de Nueva España (PANES) and the various Mexican states that they have genealogy resources for.

I want to thank Nancy Yturralde for emailing me a link to this resource which I hope continues to grow as time passes by.

As of today they have resources and links to genealogy pertinent collections and archives for the states of:

  •  Aguascalientes
  • Baja California Sur
  • Chihuahua
  • Coahuila
  • Durango
  • Jalisco
  • Michoacan
  • Nuevo Leon
  • Zacatecas

I recommend that you take the time to check them out and explore what records and or archives you can find through them.

Here are the links to visit their website:

One of the persons behind PANES and the Hispanic Heritage Project is Carlos Yturralde who I had the pleasure of meeting and talking to in Colorado this past year.

From left to right: Carlos Yturralde from the Hispanic Heritage Project, Arturo Cuellar from Familysearch, Frank Dominguez current president of Genealogical Society of Hispanic America, and yours truly Moises Garza.

The work that he is doing in Mexico of helping preserve records through digitization is invaluable.

  1. Thank you for your resources and so much to dive into the treasures of information. One question I have is what is the meaning of the abbreviation of " Ytt " on the 17th century written records? I assume it's referring to a previous aforementioned date , like in baptismal records.

    Thanks
    Tomas
