Deciphering Handwriting in Old Documents
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

Reading old handwriting in documents is hard and a great deal of learning is required to learn how to easily read them. In this post you will learn about a great resource to help you expand your knowledge on this topic.

Once a month I will feature a presentation that is available on Las Villas del Norte (the official premium genealogy group for our Mexican genealogy community). These presentations have a focus on researching Mexico or are about methodology that can be applied to researching our Mexican and Spanish Colonial Ancestry.

Today the presentation that I want to make you aware of if that of professional genealogist Leslie Carney and it is titled "Deciphering Handwriting in Old Documents".

The summary of the presentation is: "In this presentation, Leslie Carney talks about how knowing the History of writing or script found in old documents can help genealogists and family historians read and understand what the document is about. Leslie will discuss how handwriting changed through the ages from the 15th to the 18th centuries."

This presentation provides a great wealth of knowledge and examples on the different eras and writing styles used.

The following topics are discussed:
