FamilySearch and its Mexican Record Repositories area treasure trove for Mexican Americans doing Genealogy research. I will be honest, I am often surprised that a lot of people don’t know about FamilySearch and the wealth of information that it provides for free.
Specially all the Mexican Genealogical Records that it holds. If you are one of these people and have not heard about FamilySearch you are in for a treat.
I have been doing genealogy research for well over twelve years, but in the last two years I have found more information and ancestors than on the previous ten years combined and it is all thanks to FamilySearch online digital images.
This increase is all due to FamilySearch going online and all digital. They have plans to eventually phase out their microfilm collections by putting all of them online.
What Is FamilySearch.org?
FamilySearch is a genealogy organization operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the largest genealogy organization in the world. FamilySearch maintains a collection of records, resources, and services designed to help people learn more about their family history. FamilySearch gathers, preserves, and shares genealogical records worldwide. The following searchable databases are simply awesome since they are basically an index that will help you find your ancestors. Once you locate them you will be provided with all the necessary information so that you may browse the Church Records to find a copy of the original document.

How do I Search FamilySearch and its Mexican Record Repositories?
It is very simple to search for an ancestor at FamilySearch.org. You can click here or type familysearch.org in your browser.
Once you are there, towards the bottom of the home page you will see an icon labeled Search. Just click it, this will send you straight to their search page.
What I do is enter the last name of the ancestor that I am looking for and I either enter the spouse’s name or the parent’s names. This type of combination will return more relevant searches.
If you don’t happen to know the names of the parents or spouse enter a location or year range when your ancestor lived. Be creative enter all types of combinations with all the information that you may have.
