Conquistador Melchor de Alanes

On or about March 16, 1517, he sailed to the Indias (the new world) and in that same year he was already with Grijalva. He also participated in the “Noche Triste” in Tenochtitlan.

His passenger entry to the Indies states that he is the son of Pedro Alavez and Constanza Marin. Other sources mention the same father and his mother Teresa Gomez Marin. I believe this second one to be the correct name of his mother. The original entry from where the passenger entry was extracted, abbreviated his mother’s first name as Ca but it could also easily be Go.

Melchor ends up marrying Maria de Salas the daughter of Juan Rodriguez de Salas another conquistador.

MELCHOR (CONQUISTADOR)¹ DE ALANES^1-8 was born in Teruel, Aragon, Spain^7-8. He died after 1560^{1, 8}. He married MARIA DE SALAS (daughter of Juan (conquistador) Rodriguez de Salas and _____ _____). Melchor (conquistador) de Alanes^1-8 sailed to Indias from Spain on 16 Mar 1517⁷ He arrived in New Spain in 1519². He lived in Antequera^2-3.

Melchor (conquistador) de Alanes and Maria de Salas had the following children:

1. DIEGO² DE ALAVES (son of Melchor (conquistador) de Alanes and Maria de Salas)³.  He married JUANA DE CASTANEDA (daughter of Tomas de Lamadriz and Maria Ramirez).
2. FRANCISCO DE ALAVES AVENDANO^{2, 5-6, 8} (son of Melchor (conquistador) de Alanes and Maria de Salas) was born in Oaxaca⁵. He married JULIANA RAMIREZ (daughter of Tomas de la Madriz and Maria Ramirez).

Generation 2

1. DIEGO² DE ALAVES (Melchor (conquistador)¹ de Alanes)³.  He married JUANA DE CASTANEDA (daughter of Tomas de Lamadriz and Maria Ramirez).

Diego de Alaves and Juana de Castaneda had the following child:

i. MELCHOR³ DE ALAVES (son of Diego de Alaves and Juana de Castaneda)³.

2. FRANCISCO DE ALAVES² AVENDANO (Melchor (conquistador)¹ de Alanes)^{2, 5-6, 8} was born in Oaxaca⁵. He married JULIANA RAMIREZ (daughter of Tomas de la Madriz and Maria Ramirez).

Francisco de Alaves Avendano and Juliana Ramirez had the following children:

i. FELIPA³ DE ALAVEZ⁵ (daughter of Francisco de Alaves Avendano and Juliana Ramirez) was born in Oaxaca⁵. She married DIEGO ARECHUVALETA ARTEAGA (son of Juanes de Arechuvaleta and Francisca Cavala). He was born in Antequera, Valle de Oaxaca. Felipa de Alavez⁵ lived in Antequera, Valle de Oaxaca⁵. Diego Arechuvaleta Arteaga⁵ lived in Antequera, Valle de Oaxaca⁵.

ii. CATALINA RAMIREZ DE ALAVEZ^{6, 9} (daughter of Francisco de Alaves Avendano and Juliana Ramirez) was born in Antequera, Valle de Oaxaca⁶. She married GERONIMO PEREZ DE APARICIO.
