This post provides genealogical information about Conquistador Bernaldino Vasquez de Tapia. He was married to Maria de Peralta.

He was originally from Oropesa, Toledo, Spain and he arrived in the Indies (the New World) in 1514. He later made his way to nowadays Mexico.

He was with Cortez in the conquest of Mexico as a horseman. He was a captain and in 1524 Cortez appointed him as a Regent of Mexico City. He was also assigned as perpetual regent of Mexico City from 1528 until 1559.

It is estimated that he died about 1559.

As you can see, the chart has an unidentified wife with whom he had an illegitimate daughter, whose name we do not know, but she was married to Gines Mercado. Also, we only know the name of one of his children.

  1. Hello Moises. I’ve been working on my genealogy and Bernardino is my 13th great-grand father. I believe, my lineage is the descent of the illegitimate child he had. My 13th great-grandmother is Sancha (a native woman) and they had a daughter named Ana Vazquez de Tapia de Mercado.
