In this post I share details about a recent addition to my library, the book "Puebla de los Angeles, Mexico Baptisms 1544-1608" by Damien E. Aragon.
As a member of the New Mexico Genealogy Society I was very exited when I saw this book on their newsletter. My area of research is Northeastern Mexico and many families from that area have deep roots in Puebla de los Angeles, known nowadays simply as the city of Puebla, Mexico.
This book is a time saver. I had previously attempted to search these baptisms at FamilySearch but the writting is hard to read. Also, FamilySearch has them indexed but many of the names are wrong or mispelled, they also don't have the full date only the year. In any case, I think this book is better for researchers.
Mr. Aragon did a great job. He includes the image numbers so you can easily consult the Family History Library film # 227520 to get a copy of the original record.

If Puebla is in your research area, I highly recomend that you buy a copy of the book.
Book Description by Amazon
"Puebla de Zaragoza, also known as Puebla de los Ángeles in colonial times, and simply as Puebla, today was founded in 1531. The earliest list of settler’s dates to 1534. This church is the oldest church in the city with baptismal records starting in 1544. These baptismal records give us the earliest snapshot of couples and their children. An additional bonus is the priests recording, in many cases, the relationship of the godparents. These records are a launching point for many of their descendants that settled in the American Southwest."
