Using the 1930 Mexican Census to Find Your Mexican Ancestors
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

Researching your Mexican ancestors through the 1930 Census is both simple and completely free. As Mexico’s 5th national census, it serves as an excellent resource for uncovering family history and connecting with past generations.

I’ve personally had great success using this census to help others find their ancestors. However, I should mention one limitation: the 1930 Census only covers about 90% of the population. Sadly, my own family is missing from it—despite my efforts, the municipality where they lived does not appear. Whether this was due to lost records, an indexing issue, or simply that they were not enumerated, I cannot say. Hopefully, your search will be more rewarding than mine.

That said, I’ve been fortunate in locating other people’s ancestors. For example, while researching my brother-in-law’s family, I found not only the town they came from but also complete household information for his grandparents and great-grandparents. With the details provided, I was able to trace his lineage all the way back to the early 1800s.
