Genealogy of La Villita (Guadalupe Victoria), Jalpa, Zacatecas
Mr. Gonzalez Explains:
My family roots are in Guadalupe Victoria (La Villita) and the towns around Jalpa, Zacatecas, going back to the 1600s. Marcos Venegas (b~1620) bought the land now covering La Villita and surrounding areas in 1648 from Francisco Ocampo Saavedra and was given ownership retroactive to 1646 as Ocampo sold the land before it had been granted to him by the Royal authorities. The area known then as Sitio de Ganado Menor El Sauz, alias El Rancho Viejo, alias La Villita, covered approximately 2.9 square miles.
