In this post, you can learn more about the online Archive of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and the various record types that you can find there. It is a great resource for anyone doing genealogical and historical research of ancestors that lived not just in Matamoros but the region.
It's records include information also on families that lives North of the Rio Grande river prior to 1848.
The Matamoros archives came online late last year. They contain thousands of records on PDF format.
I was able to find wills, land sales, and even a document regarding the settlement and establishment of what is nowadays Matamoros.

How to Search The Archives
The first thing you need to do is go to the archives using this link: http://casamata.matamoros.gob.mx/casamata-en-linea/
Once there just scroll down the page until you see the following.
You don't have to select anything on the first drop down box.
On the second drop down box, you will be able to select any one of the record types that I listed above.
Once you do that you will be able to select the desired year on the third drop down box. Then just press the blue button to start your search.
As an example I selected "Testamonto" then the year "1814" and got the following result.
So there you have it. Have fun!
